Travel along the river with the writers

Croissy

In the department of Yvelines, the small town of Croissy is located in a meander of the river Seine. During the 19th century, just like the neighbouring town of Chatou, Croissy experienced the growing trend of boating along the Seine. La Grenouillère, an open-air cabaret set up on the Île de Croissy, was a huge success until it was destroyed in a fire in 1889. Its patrons included impressionist painters and naturalist writers. Nowadays, Le Musée de la Grenouillère breathes new life into the famous floating café where Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir met up at the end of the summer of 1869 to paint their first impressionist paintings.
