Travel along the river with the writers

Asnières

Asnières-sur-Seine is located in the department of Hauts-de-Seine. The town is home to a small riverside port, used for recreational sailing, along with an industrial port area to the north, allowing for the trade of heavy materials, namely for construction, that can only be transported to Paris in large quantities by river. The town boasts a rich historical and industrial heritage. Many artists, mostly impressionists, painted its riverbanks (including Émile Bernard, Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir, Georges Seurat, Paul Signac, Vincent Van Gogh, among others). The town also served as the backdrop for several films, including Fear Over the City (Peur sur la ville) by Henri Verneuil. The Cimetière des Chiens pet cemetery, which is mentioned by Raymond Queneau, opened in 1899 on the old Île des Ravageurs.
